Categories, or rather water tight compartments of any kind have always confused me. Where does one boundary begin and where does the other end is something that eludes me.
This particular emotion is extended to my book reading sessions too.
Very recently, I found that 21st November is also the International Philosophy Day. Being a bibliophile my mind quickly started to index all the philosophy books I have read. And the Paulo Coelhos or Nietzsche of the world started to flood in. But peaking beyond these names were some unusual suspects.
Philosophy in books that were never meant for that category!
Misfits. The most unassuming titles have some of the deepest philosophies one can ever lay oneβs eyes on.

Agree with you! When I was in college and started reading fiction in a big way, whenever I came across something interesting or profound or worth pondering, I would note it down in a diary. I love the lessons, the insights I came across when reading fiction.
True Shilpa and not just college I still do it π
I love those philosophies that are hidden. It is fun to just happen across one. ♥
yes it is fun and also heart warming π
Impressive post Richa. I am a fan of Dan Brown novels and Robin Sharma’s books. But different phases of life took me through numerous kinds of reads. Now I am stuck with ‘The Secret’ plus some interior styling & decor books. But the base point is, reading is a very engaging and lucrative habit.
Yes tara reading is very engaging and also a great company in times when nothing seems to work. The secret is a great read undoubtedly.
Hi Richa,
Liked your post and your thoughts to find a different angle to Harry Potters and other books.
What is your take on Ramayana and Mahabharata ? They also don’t preach philosophy directly but replete with dynamics of life and insights to it.
regards,
Totally. Mahabharata and ramayana have chunk loads of philosophy and believe me I am fetish for the mythology based insights into life.
i celebrated international philosophy day by enrolling for a course in distance education in philosophy. I had read satanic verses long back, and felt it to be quiet philosophical. Well others, I havent read yet.
It is very philosophical… well I also enrolled for one on coursera lets see how that turns out to be π
I am going to get philosophy stone now. thanks for sharing and notice about philosophy day.
Thanks Vasant for liking it π
Bible it is for me. Personally, I love autobiographies. They can give out valuable learning lessons, it is almost like talking to that person when you read a book on their life. Hopped in from indiblogger.
Thanks for reminding us about philosophy day.
