Had I looked back what would I have seen? A thirteen year old who
lost her mother. A sister who was barely eight. A dad who had perhaps been
struck down by life’s biggest loss. And yes a thirteen year old.

I recently happened to find a few of my diaries filled with poems.
All written between the ages of thirteen and fifteen. I cried. And I don’t cry
much. Also the reason I stopped writing poetry.

Had I looked back I would have seen the seeds of a mature woman
germinating. It had started early, very early. But then why look back?

It has been written for Write tribe’s 100 words on a Saturday ‘s prompt ” Had I looked back” which has been given by Nischala who blogs at Verve.
It is the first time I am writing for any prompt almost as soon as it is up. I loved it.
Yes, why look back? But sometimes, ‘looking back’ teaches you some lessons. Nicely done!:)
yes it does.
Poignant and beautiful. Hugs dear girl!
Thanks Shilpa 🙂 and *hugs*
Looking back makes you realise how far you came. Beautifully expressed.
Hugs to u Girl for going back! <3
Thanks Sheethal 🙂 And *hugs* to you too 🙂
The pain, emotion, vulnerability is all there! You’ve seen so much in your life so early Richa.
But then life’s a roller-coaster ride, that’s what people say.
Yes life is a rollercoaster, filled with its highs and lows…
At times looking back makes you realize how much ahead you have progressed from point zero. it should be a good feeling though.
Kalpana now that you put it this way perhaps yes…
Now that is one fantastic maiden attempt at the prompt 🙂
Thanks Jyotsana 🙂
Sometimes, looking back is the way forward, and in this case, seeing how far forward you’ve come in spite of what you’ve gone through!
Yes Michelle that is the central thought often, but difficult to practice
Once you look back, you can move forward easily. Lovely post.
Thanks Sulekkha but in some cases the past holds onto us..
Wow 🙂 That’s another side of your blog I haven’t read yet. Lovely take on the prompt, and I can only echo what everyone else said : Sometimes it’s necessary to look back to move forward 🙂
Yes it is Sid. But for me it is often a case of more pain. That’s me what can I say.
Lovely post Richa 🙂 I can’t say much…just be proud of yourself dear…look back and be proud…how far you’ve come n how beautifully!
Thanks Aditi for such inspiring words 🙂
so deep, profound, n personal. Its not easy to write about such events about your own life. Left me speechless and with a new found respect for you! Lovely take on the prompt.. And you really are an inspiration on how to live life. personally, i feel one should look back occasionally. lots of love
Ahhhh such deep words for me Nischala, thank you soo much 🙂 and yes one should look back but I believe only occasionally.
Lovely expressions…looking back at times is a reminder to ourselves on how far have we come.
Yes at times it is Sugandha…
Hugs to you Richa. <3 You are amazing dear. Keep smiling. 🙂
Thanks Jyothi 🙂 *hugs* to you too 🙂
Hugs sweetheart! Now now hweres my DQ!
Hehe it disappears for moments 🙂
Awesome take on the prompt. Loved it.
Thanks Jairam 🙂
We all start from somewhere. Looking back can be painful, but those memories are what makes us who we are today.
Enjoyed your writing.
Thanks a lot, yes a lot of things need a start..
As much as the past is responsible to shape us up, its not always great to look back. Why look back , indeed to loss and sadness. Cheer up girl.
Sorry to hear about your loss, though.
kajal I echo your statement. I too feel that past is only there as a foundation best left buried under concrete…
Nice post and i have followed you and gave my entry too. If possible check it out 🙂
Sure sure I will read 🙂 thanks for your appreciation 🙂
I will for sure for sure 🙂
Sometimes the only way you can move forward is to look back. We learn from the places we have already been and the experiences we have lived through. So sorry for your loss. ♥
Yes we do learn Kathy and often they serve as sweet escapes 🙂
It is the act of looking back that every time gives the impetus to look forward with a positive intent. A nice post.
Yes it does. And intent needs to be positive or else results can be awry..
Hugs Richa!
Looking back can give us insights to the kind of person we have become today.
Beautifully done
*hugs* yes Hema this is true too, the evolution of the person we started being with…
Hugs, Richa!
Sometimes I am almost afraid to go through old diaries!

Looking back at good memories may bring a smile to your face, looking back at sad memories you have two options, get depressed, cry or learn from it and move on. Personally I don’t have the time to look back, there is so much to do and achieve that all my focus is just on the present and the future. Enjoyed the post and keep it coming……..
And one should be like that. Focus on present and the future… I am happy to know you and I think on similar lines..
very well penned … short story in just 100 words, I cnt do this 🙂 all the best fr the contest
Thanks Bhavan 🙂
Very well written. And reading diaries can indeed give you a mixture of emotions. Some smiles; some nostalgic memories; and even some sad memories.
Yes reading diaries can have their own share of risks…emotionally
